The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) accused the Congress government of not keeping its word on helping flood victims in Kamareddy and Yellareddy constituencies even a month after the government bigwigs visited the area.
During a visit to the the flood-affected areas in the Nagireddypet area in Kamareddy district on Sunday, former Minister T. Harish Rao, former Minister V. Prashanth Reddy and former MLA J. Surender said the government had not released any funds so far despite the loss of property and crop loss in over 40,000 acres. They demanded a compensation of ₹25,000 per acre to farmers.
The loss assessed by the district authorities was ₹340 crore but the government had not released even ₹34 crore. He felt that works should have been taken up on a war-footing after the promise made by the Chief Minister himself. There was no direct road link between Kamareddy and Yellareddy even after a month now with a bridge in between getting washed away.
At a party meeting held later in Gandhari mandal of Yellareddy constituency, Mr. Harish Rao alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would always think of northern States and neglect the South, particularly Telangana. The discrimination has been going on since 2014.
The Centre had sanctioned ₹100 crore to Andhra Pradesh and nothing to Telangana for the next Godavari Pushkarams, and the discrimination was evident even for paddy support price. Wheat, mostly grown in the north, has a higher price of ₹216 per quintal.
