Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) Director M. Venugopal Reddy will visit Anantapur Sishu Gruha following the suspicious death of an infant. A two-month-old baby boy died under suspicious circumstances at the government-run Sishu Gruha a couple of days ago, and the staff buried the body. The incident came into light on October 4, 2025.

Mr. Reddy will visit the Sishu Gruha on October 6 (Monday) and will question the staff on duty when the incident occurred. Speaking to The Hindu on Sunday, the Director said that the mother handed over the infant to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) on August 30, and later the baby was referred to Anantapur Sishu Gruha.

“A departmental inquiry will be conducted on whether the Sishu Gruha manager, ayahs and other staff alerted the WD&CW Anantapur district Project Director, CWC and the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) on the health condition, timely medical aid provided, death of the baby boy and other issues,” Mr. Venugopal Reddy said.

A team of officers of the WD&CW and Medical and Health officers conducted inquiry into the death of the infant, the Director added.
