Vizianagaram district Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy on Sunday (October 4, 2026) said that the proposed Reliance Data Centre at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district would spur economic activity and create more job opportunities both directly and indirectly within a couple of years. He said that the government would clarify all the doubts of locals before taking up land acquisition for the prestigious project.

Farmers recently staged a protest at the Bhogapuram Mandal Parishad Office, opposing the land acquisition for the project. The government has only 25 acres of land, and it needs to acquire the remaining 830 acres from private owners. The government has offered compensation as per the Land Acquisition Act. Against this backdrop, the Collector spoke to The Hindu and said the farmers’ interests would be completely protected as per the rules and regulations.

“We need nearly 855 acres of land in Polipalli and Bhogapuram, on the east and west sides. Fortunately, there is cooperation from a majority of the farmers, as they would get decent compensation. A few farmers approached the court. We are hopeful that they will understand the importance of the project and extend their support to the district administration,” he said. The Collector urged locals not to be misled by people with vested interests, since the project was meant to benefit future generations.

According to sources, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will invest around ₹1.08 lakh crore in the gigawatt-scale artificial intelligence data centre cluster at Bhogapuram, where the GMR Group recently built a new international airport.
