Gujarat Police have traced 701 missing persons in two weeks under a statewide drive titled Operation Milap, officials said. The operation was launched in early May across the State to reopen and review pending missing person cases.

According to official data, 24,767 people have been reported missing in Gujarat since 2007.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said police stations across the state traced 701 people between May 7 and May 21 and reunited them with their families.

He said the government has provided required resources for the drive.

Additional Director General of Police (CID Crime and Railways) Ajay Choudhary said the operation is based on technical and human intelligence inputs and involves review of old case records and fresh field-level verification.

Police said the drive also involves checking digital records, social media activity, transport locations and shelter homes, and revisiting complainants and witnesses.

Officials said some cases are linked to trafficking networks and criminal groups involved in child trafficking and related offences.

Police said work on several old cases, including those registered since 2007, has been reopened under the operation.
