Justice T. Madhavi Devi of the Telangana High Court issued notice to Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar in a contempt of court case.

A 33-year-old businessman, Mohammed Shahnawaz Alam from Aman Nagar of Old City, filed the contempt petition. He alleged that the Commissioner had wilfully disobeyed an order passed by the judge on August 13 in a writ petition filed by him over Bhavaninagar police allegedly subjecting him to torture without registering any case against him.

The petitioner charged in that plea that that the Bhavaninagar Inspector N. Karuna Kumar and Sub-Inspector B. Pochaiah illegally detained him on the night of August 6 and beat him up black and blue. He stated that despite submitting a complaint to the Director General of Police no action was initiated against the police officers.

The judge disposed of the writ petition instructing the Hyderabad Police Commissioner to examine the petitioner’s complaint and verify the CCTV footage of the police station to ascertain facts over allegations of illegal detention and torture of the petitioner. The businessman moved the HC again by filing contempt of court case stating that the order passed by the judge was being wilfully disobeyed by the Commissioner.  The matter was adjourned to Monday for next hearing.
