AMMK founder T.T.V. Dhinakaran condemned the reported assault of a trainee doctor by family members of a patient in Sivaganga district and urged the Tamil Nadu government to ensure the safety of medical professionals in the State. He sought for severe action against those involved in the incident.

Referring to media reports about the assault on a doctor, Mr. Dhinakaran expressed shock and said it was the State government’s duty to ensure the safety of doctors. The incident involved a trainee doctor in Government Sivagangai Medical College and Hospital.

The former legislator said the trainee doctors have called for staging a protest, since the police failed to act on a complaint over the incident, despite being supported by CCTV footage and other evidence. Such recurring incidents were concerning regarding the safety of medical professionals.
