Technical sanction has been accorded for the bridge connecting Perandoor and Vaduthala in Ernakulam, T.J. Vinod, MLA, has said.

“The bridge will help reduce traffic congestion, which is worsening by the day in the city. It will also provide an easy passage connecting Pachalam and Vaduthala with Perandoor,” he added.

The project has been given administrative sanction for ₹34.24 crore, of which ₹10 crore has been set apart for land acquisition. As part of the revised alignment, 34 cents have been acquired in the Perandoor area and 55 cents in the Vaduthala area.

All necessary clearances have been obtained from the departments concerned. The bridge will have a total length of 153.60 metres and features two spans of 25.70 metres in width, one span of 26 metres in width, and six land spans of 12.5 metres in width. It will have a 7.50-metre-long carriageway and 1.5-metre-wide footpaths on both sides.

The tendering process has been initiated. Construction work will start as soon as the contractor signs the agreement and takes over the site, Mr. Vinod said.

The completion of the Vaduthala-Perandoor bridge is expected to bring immense relief to the city’s transportation system, the MLA added.
