Former Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Girraj Prasad Tiwari passed away in Bharatpur late on Thursday October 2, 2025) night at the age of 105. He was widely respected across the political spectrum for his extensive knowledge of parliamentary traditions and his consistently balanced and dignified approach to politics.

Mr. Tiwari was born at Bidyari village in Bharatpur district in 1920. He served as the Assembly Speaker from January 31, 1986 to March 11, 1990, and was twice elected as an MLA.

He also served as the Deputy Speaker from March 29, 1985, to January 31, 1986. He began his career as a lawyer, after which he entered politics to become the Panchayat Samiti Pradhan and the Zila Pramukh.

Mr. Tiwari’s body was cremated at Bidyari on Friday in the presence of a battery of political leaders, including Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and elderly Socialist leader and former Bharatpur MP Pandit Ramkishan.

Condolences poured in from various social and political figures, several of whom highlighted the loss of an experienced personality. Veteran Congress leader and former CM Ashok Gehlot said Mr. Tiwari, who lived a “splendid life” up to the age of 105, was an example of discipline and vivacity.
