The Thiruvananthapuram Rural police arrested a habitual offender after a dramatic chase in Balaramapuram on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Suresh alias Jambulingam Suresh, who hails from Balaramapuram, had allegedly been evading arrest after a case involving an attack on a woman and her daughter on August 20.
The accused had allegedly trespassed into their house and assaulted them before fleeing away with a mobile phone. A case was subsequently registered by the Balaramapuram police.
According to the police, Suresh had been hiding in makeshift shelters in Punnakkad, near Balaramapuram. During the investigation, the police received information that he was staying on the upper floor of an unfinished building.
A police team led by the Neyyattinkara Deputy Superintendent of Police reached the spot to apprehend him. On seeing the police team, the accused allegedly attempted to escape by jumping from the second floor of the building. The police pursued him and managed to apprehend him after a chase.
Suresh is known to be accused in nearly 40 criminal cases. Besides, he had served a 12-year prison sentence before returning to his hometown where he allegedly formed a new gang and purportedly resumed various anti-social activities, including robbery.
