The Dasara festivities proved highly rewarding for the century-old Mysuru zoo, which attracted over 1.56 lakh visitors and generated a revenue of ₹1.91 crore — the highest in the last five years.

Although the footfall this Dasara season was slightly lower compared to the last two years, the revenue earned has been the highest in the recent past, particularly in the post-pandemic period.

Mysuru zoo is one of the prime attractions for tourists in the city, and the Dasara season brings a number of visitors to the site, particularly from neighbouring States.

On the day of Ayudha Puja on October 1, the zoo attracted 27,033 visitors, while 27,272 visitors flocked the place on October 2, the day of Vijayadashami. Revenue earned on October 1 was ₹33.21 lakh, while the gate collections on October 2 was ₹34.07 lakh.

Last year, 34,659 people visited the zoo on the day of Vijayadashami, while 23,890 visitors flocked the zoo on Vijayadashami day in 2023. In 2022, the zoo had attracted 36,013 people on the day of Vijayadashami.

The revenue earned in 2024 was ₹1.71 crore, while that of 2023 was ₹1.67 crore. In 2022 and 2021, the revenue earned was ₹1.53 crore and ₹77.63 lakh respectively.

Tourists also thronged the Mysuru palace in big numbers during the festive period.

Stakeholders in the tourism sector were pleased with the tourist turnout this Dasara season and have sought the continuation of police deployment for at least this weekend in anticipation of more tourist inflow. High footfalls is expected at least till October 10 in view of the famed Dasara illumination being extended.

Hotels in Mysuru registered 100% occupancy during the festive season, which came as a boost for the hospitality sector. The Karanji Lake Nature Park also received high footfalls during the festive period.
