The Dharwad Dasara Jamboo Savari, which is modelled on the Mysuru Dasara that attracts lakhs of people from across the country and even abroad, is slowly drawing more crowd year after year. And, this year too, thousands witnessed the grand celebrations.
The Dharwad Dasara Jamboo Savari, wherein an idol of Goddess Bandemma Devi is placed in a Pallakki mounted on a caparisoned elephant, is taken out in a procession marking the culmination of the nine-day rituals and celebrations that are organised as part of Navaratri festival.
On Thursday, the Jamboo Savari was taken out led by scores of cultural and folk troupes that made the celebrations colourful and lively.
As has been the practice, prior to the procession, special prayers and rituals were organised at the Bandemma Temple in Gandhinagar of Dharwad.
Subsequently, puja was offered to the Pallakki (palanquin) in the presence of Shivananada Shivayogi Rajendra Swami of Kodi Mutt, Fakira Dingaleshwar Swami of Shirhatti Fakkireshwar Mutt, Gurusiddha Rajayogindra Swami of Moorusavir Mutt and Sri Basava Jaya Mrutyunjaya Swami of Koodalsangama Peetha.
The Dasara Jamboo Savari, which has entered its 21st year, attracted a large crowd in Dharwad on Thursday.

The Jamboo Savari began with the seers showering flower petals on the Pallaki mounted on the caparisoned elephant at Eshwar Temple.
In all, 35 folk troupes, including Sarot, Dollu Kunitha, Hejje Mela, Kolata, Keelu Kunitha, Yakshagana costumes, Kansale, Kudure Kunitha, Chande Maddale, Durga impersonators, Chande Vadana and Gombe Aata, took part in the procession, enthralling the large number of people who stood by the roadside to witness the grand spectacle.
The procession concluded at Kalabhavan Maidan after covering the thoroughfares of the city, including Gandhinagar, Vidyagiri, Toll Naka, Bagalkot Petrol Bunk, Hosayallapur, Kamankatti, Gandhi Chowk, Subhas Road and Azad Park.
Earlier, speaking after the flagging off ceremony of the Jamboo Savari, Fakira Dingaleshwar Swami expressed displeasure over the State government not sanctioning funds for the Dharwad Dasara Jamboo Savari which is in its 21st year now.
He said that the State government is being partisan. While hundreds of crores are spent on the Mysuru Dasara, not a single rupee has been sanctioned to Dharwad Jamboo Savari, he said.
