Ramchander Rao accuses Congress, BRS parties of ignoring people’s problems

People are “disgusted” by the political drama unfolding in the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council over the past two days, Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao alleged on Wednesday, accusing the Congress and BRS of ignoring pressing public issues.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP State office in Hyderabad, Mr. Rao said that while people expected meaningful discussions on issues affecting their lives, both parties were engaged in personal accusations and political one-upmanship. Condemning what he termed ‘theatrical political antics’ by the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS, he said the Legislature should instead focus on matters of public importance.

Mr. Rao highlighted several issues that, according to him, deserved urgent attention in the House like the pending fee reimbursement dues affecting lakhs of students from economically weaker sections, the confusion surrounding lands listed under Section 22A of the Registration Act, delays in the payment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to government employees, implementation of Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations, and the overall economic challenges facing the State.

“The Congress government is betraying public trust, much like the BRS administration and failures of both governments are responsible for the serious problems being faced by the people today,” he alleged. “Instead of addressing them, they are diverting attention in the Assembly to cover up their failures and inadequacies,” he added.

Later in the day, Mr. Rao wrote to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Italian language, drawing attention to what he described as a deepening education crisis in Telangana. He sought Mr. Gandhi’s intervention to ensure immediate clearance of pending fee reimbursement dues, which he claimed were affecting nearly 40 lakh students, and to address the deteriorating condition of the education sector.

Separately, BJP Rajya Sabha member K. Laxman, speaking in New Delhi, expressed concern over the conduct of Assembly proceedings. He alleged that legislators had lowered the dignity of the House through the use of abusive language and personal attacks instead of debating public issues.

Mr. Laxman also alleged that the Revanth Reddy government had shifted its focus away from public welfare. Claiming that people in Telangana were looking for political change, he expressed confidence that the BJP would emerge as a strong alternative in the State in the coming years.
