Kerala High Court stays trial in 2016 Puttingal fireworks accident case

The Kerala High Court on Monday (September 7, 2026) stayed the trial in the Puttingal Devi Temple fireworks incident case till September 14.

The High Court sought an explanation from the State regarding the change of public prosecutor in the proceedings before the trial court. 

The State was granted time to file a statement regarding the reasons for changing the prosecutor in the case and to produce the relevant records

The accident in Kollam district in 2016 killed 109 people and injured 280 others. The blast also damaged more than 300 houses.
