MCC cracks down on property tax defaulters

Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner M.K. Savita has directed officials to initiate action, as per rules, against property tax defaulters within the corporation limits.

A special review meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of the Commissioner, in the presence of Additional Commissioner Veena, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Somashekar, zonal officers, revenue officers and revenue inspectors.

The meeting reviewed the details of tax defaulters in each ward separately, with particular focus on properties where taxes had remained unpaid for a long period. Officials discussed the action to be taken against such properties.

As per government rules and the 2025 State Gazette notification, first, second and third notices have to be served on property tax defaulters following the prescribed legal procedure. If the outstanding tax remains unpaid even after the notices are served, further action, including attachment of the property, can be initiated under the applicable laws, according to the MCC.

Against this backdrop, officials have been instructed to complete the process of issuing notices in all property tax default cases by the end of this month. Further legal action will be taken, as per rules, against those who fail to clear their dues within the stipulated period, a press release from the MCC said.

The Commissioner has appealed to all property owners with pending property tax dues to clear the arrears immediately and cooperate with the MCC to avoid legal action.
