A 31-year-old former militia member of the Maoists was found murdered in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur on Wednesday (October 1, 2025), said a senior police officer. Prime facie, the victim was murdered by the Maoists, who accused him of being a police informer, the officer added.
Superintendent of Police (Bijapur) Jitendra Yadav said Madkam Bhima, a resident of village Pujarikanker under Usur Police Station jurisdiction, was murdered by Maoists who had inflicted injuries with sharp-edged weapons. He added that Bhima, who in the past had been a militia member of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), had been arrested by the Warangal police in Telangana and lodged in prison for between a year and a half and two years for his association with the Maoists.
“After coming out of jail, he returned to his village and was living with his family, having severed all ties with the Maoists,” he said, adding that he had been staying in the village for at least three months.

On the incident, Mr. Yadav said verification has revealed that around 9.00 p.m., Maoists came to Madkam Bhima’s house, accused him of being an informer, dragged him out of the house, and murdered him by inflicting injuries with sharp-edged weapons. “On the basis of the report, a case has been registered at Usur Police Station and necessary legal action is being taken,” he said.
With Wednesday’s incident, 38 civilians have been killed by the Maoists in the Bastar region so far in 2025, as per government data. Mr. Yadav said that 18 civilians have been killed in Bijapur district, one of the seven districts of the Naxal-affected region.
