The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated an enforcement drive against companies producing infant food products to ensure safety and compliance.
According to FSSAI, Bengaluru-based British Life Sciences Private Limited based was found to be violating certain food safety standards in infant food products. Officials have taken legal action against the company for failing to maintain safety standards.
FSSAI stated: “During the inspection conducted at British Life Sciences Private Limited, Bengaluru, a significant quantity of misbranded infant food articles was identified, and seized in accordance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Considering the serious nature of the violations and the potential risk posed by non-compliant infant food products to infants and young children, appropriate legal proceedings were initiated against the firm.”
The officials ordered destruction of around 3.7 metric tonnes of expired infant food articles, as per directions of the court. The expired stock was safely disposed of to prevent its reuse, diversion, or reintroduction into the food chain.
