Seventeen of 21 workers from Jharkhand were injured when their vehicle overturned on the highway near Buja Buja Nellore on Tuesday (September 1, 2026) evening. The accident took place while they were going to Daggavolu near Balayapalle in Tirupati district for work related to the shifting of power lines. They were admitted to the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nellore.

On learning of the accident, District Collector Himanshu Shukla reached the GGH to assess the medical care being provided and asked about the condition of the injured. He asked the contractor to provide immediate financial assistance of ₹10,000 each to 16 injured workers undergoing treatment in the orthopaedic surgical wards and ₹1 lakh to a patient undergoing treatment in the ICU.

He reviewed the case sheets to check the names of the injured and the details of the treatment being provided to them. He also asked the officials to inform their families in Jharkhand and immediately provide cash assistance via PhonePe. The contractor was also asked to look after the welfare of the injured until their recovery and to ensure full payment of their wages.

The Collector directed DSP Ghattamaneni Srinivasa Rao, RDO Anusha and Labour Department official Vijay Kumar Reddy to conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances of the accident and take appropriate action. He asked the GGH Superintendent to ensure that all necessary measures were taken for their speedy recovery.
