Bengaluru cop dies in road accident in Madhya Pradesh during cybercrime probe

A cybercrime investigator from Karnataka, who was in Madhya Pradesh as part of an investigation, lost his life in a bus accident in Rajgarh district on Friday morning, police sources said. His colleagues were also injured in the accident.

The deceased, K.B. Ravi, was deputed at the Southeast CEN Police Station in Bengaluru. Ravi and his team had travelled to Madhya Pradesh to pursue a lead in a cybercrime case.

According to police sources, the team was travelling in a local bus from Bhopal to Indore. When the bus was in Rajgarh district, the vehicle lost control and fell into a gorge near the Bhopal Bypass. Ravi was thrown out of the bus by the impact of the crash. He succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Two more officers from the same police station suffered multiple injuries but are out of danger. The Bhopal police handed over the body to the Bengaluru City Police, which brought it to Bengaluru on Friday night. M.A. Saleem, Director-General of Police, and other senior officers received the body at the HAL Airport and subsequently took it to a hall at the City Armed Reserve in Adugodi for public viewing.

Ravi was a 2007-batch officer known for his calm personality in the department. He was serving at the Ashok Nagar Police Station before being transferred to the Southeast CEN Police Station, where he handled several high-profile cases. Several inspectors posted at city police stations are batchmates of Ravi and described him as a humble, honest, and intelligent officer.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed condolences to his family and said, “I too share in the grief of his family and the Police Department, who have lost such a dedicated officer. I pray that the departed soul attains eternal peace and that God grants strength to his family to bear this sorrow.”
