To make up for the delay in the appointment of guest faculty for Government First Grade Colleges in the State, the government has revised the academic calendar for undergraduate and postgraduate courses for the academic year 2025-26.

The Department of Higher Education on Tuesday issued a revised calendar of events that should be followed by 25 State-run universities on Tuesday. This change will impact about 3.2 lakh students in 440 government first-grade colleges across Karnataka.

The revised calendar differs from one university to another, depending on their earlier schedule. For example, the semester at Mysore University was originally scheduled from July 30 to October 23, but it has now been extended until November 22. For Bengaluru University, the end of semester is now November 29 instead of the earlier October 28.

This move is an effort by the Department to compensate for the loss of classes suffered by students in the absence of guest faculty. This extension allows students to prepare for exams with less pressure.

On Monday, the government had ordered the re-appointment of around 10,500 guest lecturers who had worked earlier for the ongoing semester.
