Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has said the implementation of Telangana Bhu Bharathi (Record of Rights in Land) Act, 2025, would serve as a “referendum” on the Congress government’s performance in the next elections.

Speaking at a land resurvey awareness meeting at Narayanapuram village in Sathupalli mandal of Khammam district on Thursday, he said re-surveys were being conducted using advanced rover technology in a transparent and accountable manner to streamline land records within a year.  The exercise is aimed at transforming Telangana into a land-dispute-free State, he added.

The Minister alleged that some BRS leaders were resorting to false propaganda against the Congress government over the “Section 22A lands” for political gains. He alleged that they were trying to protect land parcels that had been illegally acquired through transactions on the Dharani portal during the previous BRS government.

The State government had already ordered an enquiry into alleged irregularities in land transactions carried out through the Dharani portal during the previous regime, he said. Mr. Reddy also alleged that the BRS and the BJP were “reading each other’s script” and working together for narrow political interests.

The BRS, which earned notoriety for corruption during its nearly decade-long tenure, has now also failed as an Opposition party, he alleged.

The Bhu Bharathi which replaced the Dharani would safeguard land rights in a transparent manner and assign a unique “Bhoodhar” number to every land parcel, similar to an Aadhaar number.
