Minister for Health C. Damodar Raja Narasimha has directed officials to ensure that the upcoming Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals at Sanathnagar, LB Nagar and Alwal match the standards of leading corporate hospitals.

Stressing on both cleanliness and patient care, he said the institutions must emulate the best practices of AIG, Apollo, Yashoda, Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bibinagar. The Minister convened a review meeting on the preparations for the inauguration of Sanathnagar TIMS. Senior health officials who had already studied the policies and management models adopted in prominent hospitals, presented a detailed report to the Minister.

The Minister also called for a governance model at TIMS on the lines of NIMS, with autonomy and a clear division of responsibilities between clinical and non-clinical wings. He highlighted that departments dealing with clinical services, administrative functions and academics should be distinct, overseen by a medical director, a medical superintendent and a chief operating officer respectively. A detailed job chart, he said, should be put in place to ensure accountability.
