Prabha Co-operative Sugar Factory in Gokak will provide health insurance up to ₹2 lakh, and accident insurance up to ₹10 lakh to the employees and families of Prabha Sugars, Belagavi District Central Co-operative Bank President Annasaheb Jolle said in Belagavi on August 17.

Necessary steps will be taken for the safety of the workers and the welfare of their families, he said. He sought the cooperation of the workers while addressing a meeting of employees and workers of the factory.

BEMUL President and MLA Balachandra Jarkiholi assured that sincere efforts are being made for the development of the factory. He dismissed as baseless reports that the factory was on the verge of closure. “This is far from truth. In fact, we are trying to upgrade the machinery and triple its crushing capacity,” he said.

He said he was attached to the factory as his panel of directors are managing the unit now. He claimed to have pledged his personal assets to raise loans of ₹70 crore from the Sri Beereshwar Co-operative Bank. “I have no intention of cheating farmers . The factory will be run by maintaining the trust of farmers, who are the pillars of the factory because of being sugarcane growers,” he said.
