For Dr. Ruupa Rao, psychology is not confined to a counselling room. It is present in the way people communicate, make decisions, manage stress, lead teams, raise children, build relationships and respond to change. This broad perspective has shaped a career that connects psychology with coaching, education, behavioural development and professional training.

As part of Kayamanas Institute of Psychological Science, Dr. Rao works across mental wellness, coaching, behavioural development, professional learning and personal development. Her work includes counselling, coaching, training and wellness initiatives.

With more than 20 years of professional experience, her career has evolved across several disciplines. She began with an academic foundation in Computer Science and later expanded into Psychology and Business Administration. She holds a PhD in Computer Science, postgraduate qualifications in Psychology, an MBA and a PG Diploma in Clinical Psychology.

Rather than seeing these disciplines as separate, Dr. Rao brings them together while working with people. Her psychology and coaching background allows her to explore the human factors behind performance, behaviour and wellbeing while understanding the professional environments in which people operate.

This perspective has been particularly relevant in her executive coaching practice. With more than seven years of executive coaching experience, she works with leaders and professionals around leadership, performance, career development, relationships and goals. She has worked with professionals and executives across leading organisations and sectors.

Yet her work extends well beyond corporate leadership.

Dr. Rao has conducted programmes addressing mental health awareness, stress management, emotional intelligence, resilience, gratitude, psychological safety, women’s mental health, emotional wellbeing, work-life balance, burnout management, OCD and Ikigai.

One of the defining principles behind her work is that mental wellbeing should not become a concern only after a crisis. She encourages people to understand their thoughts, emotions and behavioural patterns as part of everyday life. Her message, “Understand yourself before you judge yourself,” captures this approach. She believes psychological support can be a constructive choice for anyone seeking greater self-awareness, healthier patterns and meaningful change.

Her work with children and adolescents reflects the same philosophy. The Anuhyaa Summer Camp brought together mental wellness and learning in a structured initiative and received recognition from the World Book of Records, London.

Dr. Rao’s contribution has also been recognised through several professional honours. These include the Best Trainer Award from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Government of India, in 2019; Best Training Institute Award from MSME, Government of India, in 2021; Women Who Lead National Award in 2021; Best Lady Entrepreneur recognition from Global Excellence India; and Corona Warrior recognition for her contributions during the COVID-19 period. She has also participated as a keynote and changemaker speaker at education, business and innovation summits as part of her wider contribution.

Another dimension of her work is writing. Dr. Rao is a published author whose books explore identity, cognitive patterns, personal development, psychological storytelling and parenting. Her published works include The Identity Matrix: A Guide to Identifying Your True Self, Why Do We Lie to Ourselves: Understanding Cognitive Distortion, Manasigondu Kaigannadi, Psychohorror Kathegalu and an ADHD guide for teen parents.

Writing gives her another route to communicate psychological ideas. Instead of presenting psychology only through technical language, she uses books and educational content to encourage readers to reflect on familiar experiences and recognise patterns in their own lives.

Her larger vision is to move psychology beyond the belief that it is relevant only to people experiencing serious difficulties. Understanding the mind can improve relationships, parenting, leadership, emotional regulation, productivity and quality of life.

Dr. Ruupa Rao’s multidisciplinary career reflects that philosophy. Technology, management, education, psychology and coaching have each contributed to the way she works today. At its heart, her work is about making psychological knowledge practical and accessible, while encouraging people to see wellbeing as an ongoing part of a meaningful life.
