N.K. Premachandran, MP, has called for aggressive monitoring and accelerated execution of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) road projects across Kollam, warning that persistent construction delays are inflicting avoidable hardships on residents and commuters. Reviewing infrastructure progress alongside the District Collector, the MP added that timely completion must go hand in hand with uncompromising construction quality.

The review session assessed key developments within Anchal block, noting successful milestones alongside technical bottlenecks. While construction and tarring of some stretches have been completed, works on the Asuramangalam-Kombettimala-Thittikkara-Ayathil-Madhurappa-Gurumandiram road stalled after initial attempts to re-tender under existing technology proved unfeasible. A revised estimate incorporating updated technical specifications resulted in an additional cost of ₹25,84,611.03, which has been submitted and is currently awaiting State government sanction.

In Chadayamangalam block, several project are reaching completion with officials confirming the completion of G2 works on multiple reaches. Meanwhile, the re-tendering of the Manjappara-Kundayyam Pulimoodu-Akkonom–Keezthoni-Anappara-Mukkada-Palaman road generated an extra financial liability of ₹30 lakh. “The State government has sanctioned these additional funds, and final execution procedures are currently progressing to bring the project to a close,” said the MP.
