The House Committee of the Lok Sabha, which deals with accommodation and other amenities at the official residences of the members, is yet to reconstituted even after a month since the term of the last panel ended on July 3.

The functions of the House Committee, however, are being looked after the Lok Sabha secretariat. Last year, on July 14, the Speaker had authorised the Secretary General to take all administrative decisions.

The House Committee advises on matters relating to the allotment of government residences to Lok Sabha members in Delhi. It recommends policies governing the allocation of accommodation and examines issues concerning the maintenance and management of these residences to ensure that they meet the requirements of members.

The committee also oversees the residential amenities provided to Members of Parliament such as the quality and adequacy of facilities such as water supply, electricity, sanitation, security, housekeeping, and other civic services.

The previous panel was headed by BJP MP Mahesh Sharma and had several senior members such as Congress Chief Whip Kodikunnil Suresh, Trinamool Congress’ Kalyan Banerjee among others.
