As many as 152 recruits of the 10th batch of the commando wing passed out after completing training at the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) at Pandikkad in Malappuram on Tuesday (August 4).
State Police Chief (SPC) Ravada A. Chandrasekhar reviewed the passing-out parade and urged the newly inducted commandos to uphold the Constitution, discipline, and professionalism in the line of duty.
Addressing the recruits, he said physical fitness and combat skills alone do not define a commando. “Unwavering loyalty to the Constitution, moral courage, and composure during crises are the hallmarks of a true commando,” he said.

The SPC said the Kerala Police commandos are called upon when the State faces extraordinary situations. They should be ready to tackle terror threats, protect vital installations, and serve as the first responders during natural disasters and other emergencies, he said.
“You are the shield that protects our peace and democratic system. Uphold the pride and discipline of the Kerala Police. Perform your duties with precision, confidence, and responsibility,” he told them.
The passing-out parade was followed by mock operational exercises by the newly trained commandos. They demonstrated anti-terror operations inside a hospital, the rescue of passengers from a hijacked bus, joint operations against militants hiding in a forest, VIP protection drills, and close combat techniques. The commandos also showcased their proficiency in handling modern firearms used by the Kerala Police.

The regular wing (Scorpion) commandos underwent an 18-month training programme, comprising nine months of basic training followed by nine months of advanced training at institutions including the Border Security Force in Manipur. The recruits were trained in handling a wide variety of guns.
Among those present were M. Rahmathullah, MLA; Usha Vijayan, MLA; Armed Police Battalion Commandant K.E. Baiju; India Reserve Battalion Commandant P. Wahid; Additional Director General of Police (Armed Police Battalion) Balram Kumar Upadhyay; and District Police Chief Chaithra Teresa John.
