Under the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls, 4,456 voters have been added in the Ghatshila Assembly constituency in Jharkhand ahead of the by-election on the seat.

In a press statement, Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer K. Ravi Kumar informed that the final voter list was published on Monday (September 29, 2025) and the voters include 1,585 men and 2,871 women.

Bypoll was necessitated after the death of sitting MLA Ramdas Soren. A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) member, he was the Education Minister in the Cabinet of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. He suffered a head injury after falling in a bathroom on August 2, and died on August 15 in a private hospital in Delhi.

Mr. Kumar urged the people of Ghatshila to check their names in the final voter list published on Monday (September 29, 2025). “Those who are still missing from the list should immediately fill Form 6 through a Booth Level Officer [BLO] or the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) online platform, ECINET, within the stipulated time frame to ensure their participation in the by-election,” Mr. Kumar said.

The number of voters was 2,51,367 when the draft voter list was published on September 2 under the SSR, which has now increased to 2,55,823. The number of male voters in the draft publication was 1,23,314 and the number of female voters was 1,28,050. This has now increased to 1,24,899 and 1,30,921 respectively, in the final publication.

Mr. Kumar further said that the ECI is scheduled to conduct a by-election in the Ghatshila Assembly constituency within six months of the vacancy. “In light of the by-polls, the final voter list has been published at all polling stations, AERO [Assistant Electoral Registration Officer], ERO [Electoral Registration Officer], and DEO [District Election Officer] offices in the Ghatshila Assembly constituency, and a hard copy and soft copy [pdf] has been distributed to the relevant recognised political parties,” Mr. Kumar said.

He also stated that as part of the SSR, polling stations with more than 1,200 voters have been rationalised. Consequently, the total number of polling stations in the constituency has increased to 300.

During this period, a total of 12 new polling stations has been constructed in the constituency, while 3 polling stations have been merged with others.
