Officials of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested three Sri Lankan nationals who had escaped from police custody and reached Bengaluru, and were staying illegally at a rented apartment in Devanahalli for the last eight months.

Based on a tip-off, a team of police led by Raja Imam Khasim, DCP, Crime, raided the apartment and arrested the accused. Probe revealed that all the accused, suspected to be part of international drug syndicate, had escaped from the enforcement authority to reach India.

The accused had escaped from Jaffna and taken a boat to reach India. They went to Rameswaram and stayed there for a few days before moving to Bengaluru with the help of a local contact.

Investigations are on to ascertain their activities in the city during their stay and the contacts who provided logistical support to them.

An earlier case

In August 2023, CCB officials had arrested three Sri Lankan nationals, suspected to have been involved in multiple cases in their native country, who had escaped to Bengaluru with the help of a local person. The trio were arrested from a residential apartment in Yelahanka where they were staying for a month before they were pinned down.

They had come to Rameshwaram by sea route and and with the help of a local agent reached Bengaluru and stayed in the apartment using forged documents.
