Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, on Sunday, hit back at Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over his proposal to reduce the minimum age for contesting Assembly and Lok Sabha elections from 25 to 21 years, challenging him to first induct Gen Z leaders into the State Cabinet.

Addressing the media at Shamshabad Airport, Mr. Sanjay said that if the Chief Minister was serious about empowering the younger generation, he should allot ministerial berths to leaders in the 21-30 age group instead of merely advocating constitutional amendments.

The BJP leader also demanded that the State government ask sitting Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) to resign and nominate Gen Z leaders in their place if it genuinely wanted to provide greater political representation to young people.

Claiming that the Home, Education and Municipal Administration portfolios were yet to be filled, Mr. Sanjay Kumar urged the Chief Minister to entrust these departments to young leaders.

In a swipe at the Congress, he questioned whether senior leaders were being projected as representatives of Gen Z. He alleged that the Congress had a history of appointing elderly leaders to posts meant for the youth.
