A girl was killed after a tractor hit her while she was playing in front of the house at Kadaladi village near Arani town in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday.

The police said the deceased girl was identified as S. Jayashri, 8, daughter of G. Sivalingam and S. Kavitha, who are farmers. The family was living in the village for many years. Initial inquiry revealed that along with friends, Jayashri was playing in front of her house when driver S. Prakash, 28, lost control of the tractor when he tried to reverse on the stretch.

The police said that Jayashri was badly injured in the incident and other children escaped unhurt. P arents and neighbours rushed her to the government hospital where doctors said that she was brought dead. A case was registered. Special teams were formed to nab the suspect, who is absconding. A probe is under way.
