Telangana Congress leaders, including TPCC president and MLC Mahesh Kumar Goud, Bhuvanagiri MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna, and State Mahila Congress president Errabelli Swarna, among others, welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, describing it as a victory for students, youth movement and the Opposition’s campaign over the NEET examination paper leak.
Participating in a rally on Necklace Road on Saturday, Mr. Goud said that students had united against the Centre’s “authoritarian approach”. TPCC working president T. Jagga Reddy has led a victory rally in Sangareddy and hailed Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.
At Gandhi Bhavan, Congress leaders and workers celebrated the resignation by distributing sweets and bursting crackers. MLC Balmoor Venkat credited Rahul Gandhi with amplifying the issue and urged the Centre to undertake reforms in the education system.
Bhuvanagiri MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the resignation alone would not resolve the issue and called for a detailed debate in Parliament, besides measures to prevent future paper leaks and ensure transparency in national-level competitive examinations.
Peddapalli MP Gaddam Vamsi Krishna said the episode demonstrated that united public movements could compel governments to respond to people’s concerns.
Ms. Errabelli Swarna credited the Congress leadership for supporting students and taking up the issue at the national level.
SATS chairman Shiv Sena Reddy alleged that attempts to suppress democratic protests would not succeed and urged the Centre to address the remaining demands raised by students’ organisations.
