Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday (July 24, 2026) spoke to the family members of the slain policeman Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, who was killed in a terror attack on July 22 in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Meanwhile, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also met the family.

Mr. Shah expressed his condolences and extended support to the victim’s son during a visit of BJP leader and Leader of Opposition (LOP) Sunil Sharma to the deceased policeman’s house in Budgam’s Beerwah area.

“I am grateful to Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji for personally speaking to the martyr’s son and assuring the family of the government’s full support and assistance during this challenging period,” said Mr. Sharma.

Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi was on the Amarnath yatra duty in Anantnag market when a terrorist alighted from a busy lane and opened fire at him.

Mr. Sharma said in this difficult time, prayers remain with the bereaved family. “I wish them strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss,” he added.

L-G Sinha, who visited Beerwah to meet the family members of the deceased, said the entire nation was proud of the brave-heart, whose courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty will remain etched in our collective memory.

“The martyr’s ideals of love for duty and honour for the motherland will continue to inspire generations in building a peaceful and prosperous Union Territory,” he added.

The J&K L-G assured the family that the administration stands firmly with them and will ensure their well-being and dignity. A Lok Bhavan spokesman said the L-G assured full support to the family until the victim’s son finishes his studies and becomes eligible for a compassionate government appointment.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sinha said significant progress has been achieved under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in dismantling the terror ecosystem in J&K. “I urged the entire society, especially the youth of J&K, to draw strength from the martyr’s dedication and devotion to Maa Bharti and remain united in the fight against terrorism,” said Mr. Sinha.
