A 55-year-old man was sentenced to triple life imprisonment under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Thursday (July 23, 2026) evening.

D. Sekar, a resident of Mangalapuram in Namakkal district, was a self-styled “godman”. A couple from Salem district approached him to remove “evil spirits” from their two daughters’ bodies in the year 2020. In the guise of performing a pooja for the 15- and 13-year-old girls, he sexually assaulted them.

The girls later told their parents about the incident, and they lodged a complaint with the Mangalapuram police. The police registered a case under the POCSO Act. The trial of the case was conducted at the District Mahila Court in Namakkal and on Thursday evening, the court found the accused Sekar guilty. Besides sentencing him to triple life imprisonment, the court also imposed a fine of ₹6,000 on him.
