A 31-year-old man was killed after the car in which he was travelling rammed the rear of a lorry on NH-44, near Shamshabad, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as S. Ajay Kumar, a resident of R.B. Nagar in Shamshabad, who worked as a driver. The driver of the car, Kethavath Prasanna Kumar, 29, sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Thondpally.

According to Shamshabad police, Ajay Kumar left home on Tuesday evening, informing his family that he was heading to a friend’s birthday party in Guduru village, in Kothur mandal.

Police said Ajay Kumar and Prasanna Kumar later travelled to the latter’s residence in BK Thanda, Madduru village, before beginning their return journey to Shamshabad in a car at around 11 p.m.

At around 5.10 a.m. on Wednesday, while travelling from Shadnagar towards Shamshabad, the driver lost control of the vehicle due to overspeeding and crashed into the rear of a lorry near Amity Park in Ghansimiaguda village.

Ajay Kumar suffered severe head injuries and died on the spot, while Prasanna Kumar sustained head and other injuries.

Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother, the Shamshabad police registered a case and launched an investigation into the accident.
