A high-level delegation from the Andhra Pradesh government has visited the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) to study Kerala’s model of eliminating extreme poverty. The visit forms part of Andhra Pradesh’s efforts to design a similar programme based on Kerala’s experience. KILA was chosen as the nodal institution for the discussions as it had conceptualised the framework and conducted the capacity-building programmes for the State’s extreme poverty eradication mission.

The delegation held discussions with KILA Director General N. Devidasan. Faculty members K. Rajesh and Monish Jose made presentations on the conceptual framework of the programme, its implementation strategy and the outcomes achieved under Kerala’s initiative. The Andhra Pradesh delegation included Anand Shankar, Joint Secretary, Planning Department; P. Sriramulu Naidu, Additional Chief Executive Officer, Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP); Sai Sathvik, Amit Gupta and Sandeep, consultants associated with the State’s planning process.

As part of the study visit, the team will visit local self-government institutions in Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts to understand the implementation of the programme at the grassroots level. The delegation also held discussions with officials of the Thrissur Corporation and representatives of local bodies from different districts.
