The Kadiri police arrested a man accused in a temple hundi theft case who had allegedly escaped from police custody.
According to Kadiri police, they had arrested 21-year-old Mekala Narasimha of Dharmavaram town on July 18 in connection with a temple hundi theft case that occurred at a Shiva temple in Kadiri town police station limits. He was brought to Kadiri town station for remand proceedings.
The same afternoon, around 3 p.m., the accused reportedly ran out of the police station, scaled the compound wall, entered the premises of the nearby government hospital, and fled the scene. Though on-duty police personnel attempted to apprehend him, the accused managed to escape.
Following a complaint by on-duty head constable P. Surya Narayana regarding the escape of the accused, another case was registered against him, and a search operation was launched to apprehend him. Special police teams were constituted and intensive searches were conducted across various locations.
Based on credible information received on the night of July 20 (Monday) regarding the movement of the accused in the vicinity of Gudur railway station in Nellore district, a special police team immediately rushed to the spot and apprehended the accused. He was later taken back to the Kadiri town station to be presented before the court.
