Telangana has received national recognition for its performance in maternal and child healthcare, with the Centre sanctioning an additional ₹200 crore as incentive to further strengthen services in government hospitals across the State, as per information shared by the Telangana Health Minister’s office.
Announcing this on Monday, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Sangeetha Satyanarayana said Telangana had emerged as one of the top-performing States in the country in providing maternal and child health services.
“The incentive amount will be utilised to strengthen maternal and child healthcare infrastructure and services in government hospitals. The State plans to expand newborn care units in selected hospitals, modernise labour rooms and operation theatres to meet national quality standards, and establish Midwifery-Led Care Units, Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) wards, and Lactation Management Units,” said Ms. Satyanarayana.
She added that advanced maternal and foetal monitoring systems would be installed in hospitals recording a high number of deliveries. Government health facilities across the State would also be upgraded to meet Indian Public Health Standards, with infrastructure development and service improvements aimed at securing National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification.
