The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Monday (July 20, 2026) took suo motu cognisance over reports alleging that girl students at a government school in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district were frisked, beaten and forced to remove their clothes by teachers after one of them reported losing ₹1,000.

The incident took place at a government school in Liwali village, where students of Classes 9 and 11 were subjected to searches by two teachers after one of them claimed that ₹1,000 had gone missing. The students were allegedly assaulted and forced to remove their clothes during the search, but no money was recovered.

Parents protested

The students informed their parents about the alleged incident after returning home. The following day, a large number of parents reportedly gathered at the school to protest.

“The contents of the news report, if true, raise serious issues of violation of human rights of the victim students,” the Commission said.

It sought a detailed report from the State government on the circumstances of the incident and the action taken in the matter.
