A 38-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death after he intervened in a quarrel stemming from a dispute over pending construction work in north Bengaluru.

The Madanayakanahalli police have arrested four persons.

The victim has been identified as Ravi, a native of Andhra Pradesh who had been living in Kittanahalli for the past few years and worked as a plumber.

According to the police, Ravi’s brother-in-law Manjunath, who also lived in the neighbourhood, was hired by the prime accused, Devaraj, as a mason for the construction of a house in Kadabagere. The work was allegedly abandoned midway following a financial dispute between the two, after which Manjunath stopped responding to Devaraj’s phone calls.

The police said that on Thursday, Devaraj visited the construction site and allegedly found that an incorrect cap had been fitted to the water sump. He then called Manjunath and allegedly abused him over the issue. Upset by the conversation, Manjunath switched off his phone.

Later, Devaraj, along with his sons Rahul and Muteen, and their friend Vinesh, allegedly went to Manjunath’s house and picked a quarrel. Hearing the commotion, Ravi intervened to protect his brother-in-law. The four accused assaulted both Ravi and Manjunath.

Ravi succumbed to his injuries, while Manjunath sustained injuries and was undergoing treatment.

The police have registered a murder case and arrested the four accused.
