30 new traffic patrol bikes inducted to strengthen Hyderabad traffic management

The Hyderabad Traffic Police, in collaboration with the Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC), on Saturday, July 18, inducted 30 new traffic patrol bikes into service to strengthen traffic management and improve emergency response across the city. The bikes were flagged off by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar in the presence of Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis and senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sajjanar said the induction of 30 Avenger patrol bikes, procured with CSR contributions worth ₹1.6 crore, has increased the city’s operational traffic patrol bike fleet to 80 from the existing 50. The additional vehicles would enable quicker responses to traffic congestion, road accidents and vehicle breakdowns while strengthening enforcement activities across Hyderabad, he added.

Highlighting Hyderabad’s growing traffic challenges, Mr. Sajjanar said the city has a vehicle population of around 95 lakh, with an additional 1,500 to 2,000 vehicles being registered every day. He noted that traffic management is handled by about 2,500 to 3,000 personnel working in two shifts, making public participation and corporate support essential.

He said the HCSC has deployed 120 Traffic Marshals over the past six months to assist the traffic police. He also spoke about the ‘Spandana’ initiative, an all-women safety patrol launched two months ago to provide immediate assistance to women and girls in distress. At present, 10 Spandana vehicles are operational, and plans are underway to expand the service to every police station using electric four-wheelers, he added.
