Coir Board commits to setting up 15 coir clusters in A.P.

Coir Board Secretary M. S. Lakshmi Priya has said that the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of India (MSME) has committed to establishing 15 coir clusters in Andhra Pradesh.

Addressing the gathering virtually during the inaugural session of the two-day Konaseema Coir Conclave-2026 on Thursday, Ms. Priya said that Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district has the potential for raw material for the coir sector to encourage setting up coir-based units. The conclave has concluded in Amalapuram on Friday. 

The Ministry of MSME, in collaboration with the Coir Board and the Horticulture Department, conducted a two-day conclave, exploring the potential for coir sector in the Godavari region. 

Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar has announced that an action plan has been prepared to set up 20 coir-based MSME units in the district over the next quarter.

The stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, coconut farmers, self-help groups and Farmers’ producers organizers, will be given hand-holding support with technology, marketing, branding, said Mr. Mahesh Kumar. Coir Development Department, Kerala, Director Sameer Krishna has shared the potential and experiences of the Kerala state in the coir industry and trade and export potential for coir products. 

In a closing session, Joint Collector Waikon Nydia Devi has assured skill upgradation, technological support for those keen to set up coir-based units in the district. The local artisans and young entrepreneurs displayed their products made of coir during the conclave.
