As the 2027 Census process have commenced in Tamil Nadu on Friday (July 17, 2026), Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to participate in self-enumeration.

In a statement, he requested the public to register themselves in the self-enumeration phase, which will be conducted in the first stage of the two-phase population Census in Tamil Nadu.

“The Census in Tamil Nadu will be conducted in two phases. The Self-Enumeration phase will be held from 17 July 2026 to 31 July 2026, followed by the House Listing Operations from 1 August 2026 to 30 August 2026. For the first time in the history of the Indian Census, citizens have been provided with the facility of Self-Enumeration through a secure online portal and mobile application, enabling households to conveniently furnish their Census information online. All the people of Tamil Nadu make full use of this facility and complete their Self-Enumeration during the notified period,” he said in the statement.

He also urged every household to furnish complete and accurate information and extend full co-operation to the Census authorities for the successful conduct of Census 2027.
