Three prisoners serving sentences in as many murder cases escaped from the Kalaburagi Central Jail in the early hours of Tuesday.

All the three are from Bidar district. They have been identified as Mastan of Islampur in Basavakalyan taluk, Santosh Basappa of Santapur village in Aurad taluk and Sagar Bhimaraya of Bakkachowdi village in Bidar taluk.

According to preliminary information, the prisoners scaled the prison’s security wall and fled.

The prisoners tied clothes and bedsheets and used them to climb down the outer side of the wall before escaping.

Soon after the incident came to light, senior prison officials and police personnel rushed to the jail and launched an inquiry into the incident.

The escape occurred within the jurisdiction of the Farhatabad Police Station. Special teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the prisoners.

The police have also intensified checks across Kalaburagi district and stepped up vigil along inter-district and State border areas as part of the search operation.
