Former Raichur MLA Syed Yasin passed away on Sunday in a Bengaluru hospital. He was 74.

According to sources, he was admitted to a private hospital where he died due to prolonged illness.

He is survived by his wife and four sons.

Mr. Yasin was elected from the Raichur Urban Assembly Constituency in 1999 and 2008 on Congress ticket.

He was the son-in-law of the former Union Minister Jaffer Sharief and on his behest, he entered politics.

Family sources confirmed that he will be laid to rest on Monday as per Islamic rituals.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar visited the residence of Yasin and paid his last respects to him. Recalling his association with Syed Yasin, the Chief Minister said: “I have known him from my students days. We were contemporaries in politics. Considering his work, Congress gave him ticket to contest in assembly elections six times.”

MLAs N.S. Boseraju, Shivaraj Patil, Basanagouda Daddal and MLC Vasant Kumar and other leaders paid tributes to Mr. Yasin.
