The Andhra Pradesh Primary Teachers Association (APTA) has appealed to teachers and government employees across the State to participate in large numbers in the rally and picketing programme to be organised by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Organisations (FAPTO) at district headquarters on July 14, demanding the resolution of long-pending financial issues.
In a statement issued on Friday, APTA State president Kaki Prakash Rao and State general secretary M. G. Mehdi said the present government, before coming to power, had projected itself as teacher- and employee-friendly and promised to implement the Pay Revision Commission (PRC). However, after assuming office, it had failed to give due importance to teachers’ and employees’ organisations or address their financial concerns, they alleged.
The leaders alleged that only a part of the pending dues had been cleared over the past two years, with no comprehensive settlement of arrears. They said employee and teacher organisations had repeatedly submitted representations seeking the appointment of a PRC Committee, declaration of Interim Relief (IR), payment of surrender leave bills and settlement of other financial issues.
The APTA leaders further alleged that the government had taken only token measures whenever FAPTO launched protest programmes. They criticised the government for asking employees to give it more time to address financial issues, saying such appeals were unacceptable even after more than two years in office.
FAPTO has called for a rally followed by a picketing programme in front of district Collectorates on July 14 to press for the settlement of the pending financial demands. The APTA leaders urged teachers and government employees to participate in the protest in large numbers and ensure its success so that the government responds positively to their demands.
