An 18-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed multiple times by a young man known to her at her residence in Ramagondanahalli, Whitefield, on Thursday. The accused allegedly injured himself after the attack. Both are undergoing treatment at separate hospitals. According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Yadav Das, 40, a native of Siliguri in West Bengal who resides in Ramagondanahalli, the accused, identified as 18-year-old Bande Nawaz, allegedly entered their house when no one else was present and attacked his daughter, Nandini Das, with a sharp weapon.

The police said the accused and the victim had studied together in Nallurahalli and had known each other for the past three years. Nandini sustained grievous injuries to her neck, hands, palms, ribs and thighs in the attack. After allegedly assaulting her, the accused allegedly inflicted injuries on his own neck.

While the exact motive is yet to be established, the police suspect the attack stemmed from a dispute over their relationship. According to the preliminary investigation, the accused allegedly told the victim not to marry anyone else, while she reportedly responded that she would abide by her family’s decision. The police said the two were in a relationship, but the woman’s family had not approved of it. Investigators believe the accused allegedly attacked her in a fit of rage following the disagreement.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
