Minister for Water Resources and Rural Development N. Anand on Thursday asked Karur district officials to give priority for uninterrupted supply of drinking water.

Speaking at a review meeting here, the Minister said the ongoing schemes for providing or upgrading supply of drinking water should be expedited. Steps should be taken to prevent drinking water scarcity. The supply of drinking water should be closely monitored. Enhanced vigil should be maintained on waterbodies and preserving the storage.

Mr. Anand, who reviewed the progress of the schemes of Departments of Water Resources and Rural Development, said that transparency should be key in implementing schemes. There should be no room for complaints. They should be implemented in a time-bound manner.

He said that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had committed to uplift the poor and downtrodden. The schemes and benefits should reach the targeted beneficiaries. There should be a synergy among various departments to implement the schemes. The Rural Development officials should give priority to demands of people in implementing basic infrastructure such as roads, bridges, drinking water and others in rural areas.
