A Gulf returnee, who survived an alleged attempt on his life after being pushed from the terrace of a building, was allegedly murdered by his wife the next day.

The accused, D. Sandhya, M. Anil and Venkata Sai, were arrested by the Nizamabad police in connection with the murder of D. Prashanth, 38.

Police said Sandhya allegedly viewed her husband as an obstacle to her relationship with Anil.

According to South Rural Circle Inspector Suresh Kumar, Prashanth returned from the Gulf on June 27 after working there as a labourer. Investigators said Sandhya and Anil conspired to eliminate him with the help of Venkata Sai.

On June 29, Venkata Sai, who was acquainted with Prashanth, allegedly invited him for a drink. After they consumed alcohol, Prashanth was taken to the terrace of a building, and was pushed from the first floor in an attempt to kill him.

However, Prashanth survived the fall and was admitted to a hospital with injuries. He was discharged the following day with a cannula still attached to his hand after receiving intravenous treatment.

Police said Sandhya and Anil feared Prashanth would reveal the alleged murder attempt. Sandhya, who works as a nurse, used the cannula to inject sedatives and bathroom cleaning liquid directly into his bloodstream, causing his death.

To avoid suspicion, Sandhya allegedly informed Prashanth’s parents that he fell from a cot at home and died.

Police said inconsistencies in the family’s version prompted an investigation after the death was reported on June 30. The probe uncovered the alleged conspiracy, leading to the arrest of Sandhya, Anil and Venkata Sai on July 1.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
