The State government and the Labour department are actively intervening in the crisis following the mass layoff of employees by the U.S. firm CorroHealth, Labour Minister Bindhu Krishna has said. Addressing the media in Kollam on Sunday, the Minister assured that the government is exploring every possible measure to protect the affected workers and timely actions have already been initiated since the issue came to light.

Following the initial layoff report, the Regional Labour Officer, in the presence of Uma Thomas, MLA, held urgent discussions with the company management. “While the management initially agreed to temporarily freeze the layoff proceedings based on these talks, they went back on their word the very next day. Despite this setback, the Labour department has not abandoned its efforts and is actively pursuing further dialogue to resolve the crisis,” she said.

To handle the situation directly, the Labour Commissioner is scheduled to visit the company on Monday. Furthermore, top executives of CorroHealth are expected to arrive in Kochi on July 10, following which Ms. Krishna will personally hold discussions with them on the same day. Reaffirming her stance, the Minister stated that the State government is deeply committed to safeguarding the interests of the workforce and will maintain this supportive approach throughout the negotiations.

Addressing the political reactions surrounding the issue, the Minister criticised certain leaders for using the job losses of nearly 800 employees for political mileage. “During such a crisis, leaders should focus on standing united with the affected workers rather than seeking political gains,” she said. Dismissing allegations of inaction, she added that the department has been proactive from the start, and the matter has already been brought to the attention of the Chief Minister. “The State would seek Union government intervention if necessary and remains highly optimistic about achieving a favourable outcome for the employees who lost their jobs,” she said.
