Heavy rain triggered multiple tree falls and a rockfall along the Nenmara-Nelliampathy ghat road over the past two days, disrupting traffic and prompting restrictions on movement.

On Saturday morning, a tree fell near Marappalam around 6 a.m., blocking traffic for about 30 minutes. Vehicles, including a KSRTC bus on the Nenmara-Karappara route, were stranded. Forest personnel cleared the obstruction and restored traffic.

In a separate incident the same day, another tree fell on the road leading to Meera Flora Estate. Estate workers removed the tree and restored movement.

On Friday, a tree fell near Kundar Chola around 8 a.m., blocking traffic for about an hour. Fire and Rescue Services personnel cleared the obstruction. Later in the day, a boulder fell near Marappalam and was removed by the same team.

District Collector Sudhir K. imposed restrictions on the Nelliampathy ghat road citing risks of rockfalls and landslides. Tourist entry and heavy vehicle movement have been banned. Night traffic has been restricted between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m., with access permitted to residents only in emergencies.

Authorities said violations would attract action under the Disaster Management Act.
